Eastern Shore Itinerary
From Washington D.C. and Baltimore
Day One – East on Route 50 to cross Chesapeake Bay Bridge. After a detour down to Wye Island, we returned to Rt. 50 and drove to the St. Michael’s exit and on down to Tilghman Island. We then drove back up to Bellevue to take the ferry across to Oxford and then on to Easton.
The drive and ferry ride – without stopping is 3 hours. We get out and take pictures, hike short distances for scenic views, and picnic. So, this took us 5 hours.
Day Two – We left Easton and headed for the Blackwater Wildlife Refuge, making sure to drive slowly through Cambridge for a morning look at the town. Continued to Blackwater, took the Conservation Loop Road, and found the observation deck. From Blackwater we drove to Elliot Island and poked around in an old marina.
The drive from Easton, through Cambridge to Blackwater and then to Elliot Island takes 1 and half hours without stopping. We were only able to explore for 4 hours before the rain made it unpleasant, so we headed for home.
